Increasing demand for emergency care at a major Philadelphia hospital led to the creation of a 13,000 SF transition unit/ED expansion. The clinical program includes 13 exam rooms, 1 isolation room, 3 procedure rooms and an ISO Class 7 pharmacy. Nurse stations are located for visual command of exam/procedure rooms. Multiple utility rooms are distributed to improve staff efficiency. The design incorporates a balanced color palette to sooth patients with accents that establish a clear spatial hierarchy. Extensive material and color research led to the selection of flooring and ceilings that absorb sound and shock, improving patient experience & reducing staff injury.
